If a virus is unsuccessful at taking over your cells, then your chances of keeping that nasty cold or flu away are looking good.
Studies also suggest that green tea and white tea are influential enemies of bad bacteria in your body. These studies suggest that the combination of EGCG and another polyphenol antioxidant called epigallocatechin, also called EGC, which is the same antioxidant found in pomegranate, are a forceful duo that can put a stop to the spread of bacteria in your body. There is also such a thing as “good bacteria,” like acidophilus which promotes healthy digestion, and drinking green tea can increase these levels.
Why wait until your body is under attack by a cold or flu virus? You can plan ahead and begin drinking immune building teas on a daily basis throughout the winter season. A recommended way to drink black or green tea is with lemon and honey. Breathing in the steam of hot tea like this can stimulate the cilia, or hair follicles in your nose, which serves as a natural germ cleanser. The lemon is great for thinning mucus and the honey is antibacterial and will also enhance your herbal experience.
To ensure you have stronger and better health in the future, you can consider replacing your cup of coffee in the morning with a cup of tea. This may be a difficult switch for some, and if this is the case, you could try a rotating schedule where you drink coffee one day and tea the next.
